Why am I running for Council?
I have lived in the Yass Valley with my wife, Elle, and our 2 children for many years and am passionate about this community. I believe in a Council that works as a team on behalf of the community. To do this, the Council needs to be transparent, approachable and accountable.
I have expressed my views on events involving Council in the past but now, instead of just talking about it, I’m putting my hat in the ring to make the changes I think that will make the Yass Valley an even better place to live and work. I’m not just talking about Yass town but the needs of the smaller villages too.
To help drive this change there needs to be some new faces on Council. It’s time that the people of the Yass Valley tell Council, through their elected officials, what their priorities are, instead of Council telling us what is best for our community.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Yass “Meet the Candidates” event at the Golf Club last night and those who have viewed the livestream. By jingoes I was nervous! A 4 minute speech goes quicker than you expect so I thought I would let you know a little bit more about me…
I worked for a commercial builder prior to accepting a job as the Quality Coordinator on the Yass Valley Council from 2008 to 2018. I now work for a private engineering company doing project management on unsealed and sealed roads, bridges, culverts, etc. Back in the day I also owned an earthmoving business.
I hope my previous experience in these roles will help Council in these areas.
