Allan McGrath is contesting his tenth Local Government election having served previously with the Queanbeyan City Council and now completing his third term with the Yass Valley Council. A resident of Yass since 1999 Allan very quickly became involved in the Yass Valley community as a volunteer guide at the historic Cooma Cottage and as the member of the Mt Carmel Parents and Friends Association where his children attended primary school.

As a Councillor in 2008 he instigated the Yass Men's shed and has since served two terms as shed president. A life member of Apex, Allan has been involved with a wide range of community service activities and groups all of his life and is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his election to the Queanbeyan City Council this month.
