Who is Alvaro Charry?
LtCol Alvaro (Al) Charry is a retired Australian Army Officer with 27 years of leadership experience. Al’s distinguished career has seen him hold command appointments on multiple combat tours to the middle east and a United Nations peacekeeping mission to East Timor (Timor Leste). He is a decorated and respected officer with a deep passion for service.
Al was recognised in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List as a member of Mentoring Task Force 1 (Operation Slipper - Afghanistan 2010) when the contingent were presented the prestigious Meritorious Unit Citation by then Governor-General The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO. Al is also a recipient of the United States Meritorious Service Medal for his services to US Army - Pacific in 2018/2019.
As a highly experienced operational planner and military strategist, Al knows how to develop high performing teams in pressure situations. Al is a graduate of the Royal Military College - Duntroon and the Australian Defence College. He holds a Master’s Degree (Military and Defence Studies) from ANU, and is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws (3rd year) from the University of Canberra. He is also a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Al is married to associate professor Skye Charry (sex discrimination lawyer). Al and Skye live with their children, Summer (18), Samuel (15) and Maltese Shih Tzu puppy (Hero) in Murrumbateman NSW. In their spare time Al and Skye love to travel, support local charities/businesses and watch NRL!
